Q: What is Fundraiser Info for?
A: Fundraiser Info is a list of the top ten most frequently asked questions we have received. Since embarking on the project in Scotland, there have been many times I have had to trawl the internet or contact various institutions to find out different things. There are so many different ways to raise funds and regulations to adhere to when doing so. This section of the website is aimed at helping you to identify ways to raise money without having to cut a lot of red tape!!

Q: Where should I start if I want to raise money for my local hospital?
A: If you are considering raising money for your local hospital, and I mean a real high target, make sure you have the time and resources at your fingertips to do it. The initial research and legwork takes as long as the fundraising itself. Believe it or not, this project was 4 months in planning before I even spoke to St Johns Hospital Special Care Baby Unit! The best thing to do is keep everyone involved, like the unit at your hospital, the local press, the indiviuals you will be looking to for help, and make sure not to get anyone offside!

Q: What kind of things do I need to think about before embarking on this project?
A: Think about whether or not you actually have the time to take on such a project. Fundraising from scratch is not for the faint-hearted. You need to speak to your local council's licensing department and see if you need any special licenses for the things you want to do, for example if you want to do a public collection, then you definitely do need a licence for that. If you want to run a competition or raffle, you will need a licence from the council, or you may need to keep the gambling commission abreast of what you are doing. This will ensure that you are not doing anything for which you will encounter trouble later on. Think about the kind of fundraising you want to do:
Raffle Tickets, Guess the number of sweets or guess the teddy's weight, sponsored event eg walk, car wash etc are all good money makers and you can get the local community involved in these things too. I could ramble all day in answer to this question so please feel free to call me on 07940 256 502 for further information.

Q: What if I don't get support from local businesses?
A: One of the hardest things to do is get organisations involved. 9 times out of 10, if you don't have a charity number, they won't help. That's not out of selfishness, but it's for tax reasons. Companies can claim the tax back on charitable donations, but only if the money is given to a registered charity. They may be able to help in other ways though, don't be shy about asking if you can put posters up or get their staff onside to raise the profile of what you are doing. Most of the time, they don't like to be seen to be saying "no" to charity, so they'll eventually give you some kind of olive branch and you can take it from there. NOTHING BEATS SHEER DETERMINATION AND PERSISTENCE!!!!
